Novartis Edition - a new way how to collect

Assignment

The Novartis Edition project showcases emerging artists and supports local art systems. It is an environmentally friendly and holistic way to promote art that allows also to present art in places where original artworks could not be shown for security or conservation reasons. The Global Art Curator of Novartis (Martin Furler Bassand) has put together a curatorial team (Andrea Hinteregger De Mayo, Koyo Kouoh, Samuel Leuenberger) to encourage with this project new ways of collecting and presenting artworks in a global company in a sustainable way. This is an innovative new path for corporate collections to renew itself and to get in contact with new generations of artists.

Execution

The Novartis Edition consists of commissioned pieces by international emerging artists that are created specifically for the collection. The artworks are acquired in form of a digital file that is accompanied by a physical certificate. The digital file will be printed in the size of A0 (84.1 x 118.9 cm; 1 m2; Landscape or portrait). The prints are just the physical manifestation of the artworks. Each work can be placed on up to 25 different Novartis sites at the same time. If a print is damaged, it can be reprinted.
